Things We Could Do Without In Games In 2012
20.05.12
2011 brought plenty of gaming triumphs, but it also brought a few headaches along for the ride, naggling issues that were a bit hard to get over. As a service to our readers, we've decided to present a list of things that we could do without in video games for 2012. It's not too late for game companies to get a jump-start on these ideas, which would easily make their products way better.
Without further ado, let's kick this off...
Online Passes -- This is obviously a business practice that isn't going to go away, but it kind of bothers us a little that a lot more game companies are picking up the idea of activating a pass for online play or bonus content. We understand that this initiative was introduced to counter used game sales, but to hold content away from interested gamers is really a negative move. Look what it did to Batman: Arkham City. Without the online pass, how are you supposed to experience the Catwoman chapters, aside from getting a code via Gamestop? And also, what if you don't have access to an online network? Remember DiRT 3's release on the PlayStation 3? We couldn't fully activate it because PlayStation Network was taken down. Sigh...
