Toyota recharges 2012 RAV4 line
20.05.12
Toyota's popular compact crossover, the RAV4, comes back for 2012 in three trim levels: the base model, midlevel Sport and top-of-the-line Limited.
That's not the biggest news for the RAV4 line, though. Coming late in 2012 will be the all-new RAV4 EV — electric vehicle — which goes a step beyond even the new Prius plug-in hybrid.
The RAV4 EV will be battery operated and will require recharging from an external power source. It will not have a gasoline engine onboard, as the plug-in Prius does.
As for the gasoline-power RAV4, which has been around since 1997, the 2012 models begin at $22,650 (plus $810 freight) for the base version with two-wheel drive and a four-speed automatic transmission.
They range as high as $28,650 for the Limited model with a V-6 engine, five-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Limited models with a four-cylinder engine, front drive and four-speed automatic begin at $25,465.
In between is the Sport model, with a starting price of $24,175 with front drive, four-cylinder engine and four-speed automatic; with a V-6 engine, front drive and a five-speed automatic, prices start at $26,105.
