Allerdale council will work with local housing organisations and other agencies to tackle some of the area’s most pressing housing issues.
The council is supporting a new Cumbrian housing strategy and investment plan that will run to 2015.
It will tackle issues such as the need to find more social rented accommodation and bringing empty homes back into use.
The strategy will focus on three key themes: ensuring the right housing to support a growing economy, with affordable housing and social rented accommodation; supporting vulnerable people so they can live independently with access to care and support; and potential use of the existing housing stock.
Homes will be adapted to meet special needs, empty homes will be brought back into use and sub-standard housing will be improved.
The council will work with local housing associations such as Home, Derwent & Solway and Impact to supply affordable and rented housing.
