2012 brings a spate of new laws

&Bull; A database will be created for people convicted of first-degree murder and have been released from a correctional facility. It places them on the existing sex-offender registry or the amended murder and violent offender against youth registry. Also known as “Andrea’s Law.” PA 97-0154
• Abductors convicted of child luring will undergo a sex offender evaluation prior to sentencing. Adds the penalty of a Class 2 felony for a second offense. Makes it harder for an offender to claim lawful intent of trying to lure a minor. PA 97-0160
• In response to high profile acid attacks, it is now illegal to possess and carry certain substances regulated under the Federal Caustic Poison Act that are required to bear a “severe burn” warning. PA 97-0565
• Anyone convicted of using methamphetamine who is on parole, supervised release, probation or conditional discharge can no longer purchase or possess any medication containing pseudoephedrine unless prescribed by a physician. PA 97-0560
