CHECK IT OUT: Go back in time and explore Evansville in its heyday
23.05.12
Local Author Harold B. Morgan has at least two books in the collection, "Hometown History" and "Homefront Heroes," which detail Evansville's history in general and its contributions to the war effort during World War II. Morgan's books are well-illustrated and researched.
Darrel Bigham, University of Southern Indiana professor emeritus of history, also has written several books on Evansville's history. Two standouts in our circulating collection are "Evansville" and "Evansville: the World War II Years," both published by Arcadia. These books are largely pictorial, with short historical narratives introducing each section.
Central Library has a new Local Author's Collection, located on the second floor. The collection features locally published authors.
Central Library also features the Indiana Room, which contains volumes of information on Evansville history in addition to a large, indexed clipping file that can be used for local research. The Indiana Room is open from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. every Tuesday, 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Appointments for use of the Indiana Room also are accepted.
